You must have heard about or seen the metro station inside the tunnel, but Himachal Pradesh has the first railway station in the country which is inside the tunnel. Keylong railway station is inside the tunnel. The development of railways in Himachal Pradesh happened when the railway line from Mukerian to Pathankot was laid during which this line had to pass through some parts of Himachal Pradesh. On this railway line “Ghiala” and “Kandori” railway stations came in Himachal Pradesh which was opened in 1952 AD. Earlier the work from Jalandhar to Mukerian was completed by 1915 AD, which was later started after Indo-Pakistan War in 1965 and opened in 1971 AD. This entire line is also known as Jalandhar Jammu Railway Line.

There are 57 railway stations in Himachal Pradesh, including 24 railway stations in the Ambala Division and 33 railway stations in the Firozpur Division of the Northern Railway Zone.

Himachal Pradesh has two narrow gauge railway lines in which-

1. Kalka-Shimla Railway – The total length of this railway line is 96 km. Where 102 tunnels and 864 bridges are included. This railway line is also included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site. There is a total of 18 railway stations on the Kalka-Shimla railway line.
2. Kangra Valley Railway – The total length of the line is 162 km. Under which there are 02 tunnels, 993 bridges, and 484 curves. Kangra Valley Railway is in total 3 sections whose name is (01) from Pathankot to Guler (02) from Guler to Palampur (03) from Palampur to Joginder Nagar. On this railway line, 2 railway stations in Punjab and 28 railway stations come under Himachal Pradesh.
